Hypoallergenic Puppies

How many parents have wished for a litter of hypoallergenic puppies for their allergy prone child? That wish is now granted! The successful cross-breeding of the standard Poodle and the Labrador Retriever has proven a major breakthrough in the world of those suffering from allergies.

How did it happen?

The Labradoodle came formally into existence in the 1970s when a blind Australian woman with severe allergies wished to have a seeing eye dog. A breeder stepped forward to meet the challenge, and the Labradoodle was born. Although this dog still sheds, the dander (shed skin and skin cells) was examined, and it is now proven that the reactive tissue (what causes the allergic reaction) is far less in this breed than in others.

Not a cure

The Labradoodle is not a cure for allergy sufferers. They simply have a coat that sheds less than other breeds, and the thinner undercoat means less skin cells are airborne, thus reducing the amount of allergens in the air. The airborne dander is what causes the reaction in the allergy sufferer when the air is inhaled. Animal lovers can finally 'breathe' a sigh of relief. Try visiting a breeder and gauging the reaction; if there is none or it is tolerable, perhaps a Labradoodle can join the family.

Discuss the adoption of any pet with the whole family, as bringing in a pet of any kind requires a committment on the part of every member. Every dog deserves a loving home, and the decision to adopt should never get made on a spur of the moment whim.
